Geriatric Horse Care & Maintenance Seminar

Come join us for a seminar on Geriatric Horse Care and Maintenance with guest lecturer Mark Donaldson, VMD DACVIM.

Dr. Donaldson is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.  Following graduation, he completed an internship at the University of Georgia before returning  to the University of Pennsylvania for an internal medicine residency. In 2005 he joined Unionville Equine Associates where he has been continuing his research into Equine Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID) also known as Equine Cushing’s disease.

Regenerative Medicine Seminar

On November 10, 2011, Damascus Equine Associates hosted a seminar on regenerative medicine.  Dr. Jennifer Barrett from the Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, VA presented.  Many topics were covered which included stem cells, platelet rich plasma (PRP), Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) and their uses in tendon and ligament injuries.

Dr. Barrett is an assistant professor of equine surgery at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center. She attended Cornell University Veterinary School followed by a doctorate in molecular biology from Yale University in 1999. She conducted a residency in equine surgery at the University of Illinois’ Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana, held a postdoctoral research position in the University of Wisconsin’s Comparative Orthopedics Research Laboratory in Madison and completed an internship in equine medicine and surgery at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital.

Dr. Barrett joined the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center’s faculty in 2007 where she established the new Regenerative Medicine Service.


Maryland Farrier's Association Dissection Lab

On October 22, 2011, Damascus Equine Associates was pleased to host a dissection lab for the Maryland Farrier's Association.

Lameness Locator® Seminar

On September 20th, Damascus Equine Associates offered their first Lameness Locator® seminar. Dr. Laurie Tyrrell-Schroeder from Equinosis gave an in-depth lecture showing how the Lameness Locator® works. After a live demonstration and numerous video demonstrations, Dr. Tyrrell was able to show how the data collected can add an objective approach to lameness examinations.
